Care City Weekly | Special Nurses' Week Edition.
A Nurses' Week special edition dedicated to celebrating nursing innovation and leadership
Introduction
It's another Nurses' Month, and I must say that we are excited!
From the last Nurses' Month till now, a lot has happened in the global nursing community, and this edition of Care City Weekly is dedicated to celebrating Nurses' Month.
Care City's team is made up of more than 80% of nurses.
In fact, when I started, the plan was to focus on nurses, but as time passed, I discovered we were meant to speak to the whole healthcare ecosystem, so we did a bit of re-branding and started addressing other issues in the healthcare ecosystem.
In this edition, we will feature news, insights and opinions bothering on nursing leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and more.
It will be a long exciting ride, so buckle up and get ready to roll!
In this edition, we will focus primarily on "Nursing Innovation."
When I started writing, my goal was to write about innovation and leadership.
I wanted nurses to be inspired to do more.
I saw the numerous opportunities nurses had to make a significant difference in the lives of patients and the healthcare ecosystem, but I observed that most of them, especially in Africa, needed to be motivated to do more.
So, I vowed to use that one skill—writing—to inspire as many nurses [and later healthcare professionals] as possible.
Everything you see us do in Care City is directed at inspiring nurses and healthcare professionals to do more.
Our articles, essays and stories—webinars, workshops and community outreach. Even our business arm, Evolvehealth Media. We do all we do to inspire you to do more!

How Does Nurse-led Innovation Come To Life?
Johnson & Johnson shares simple steps nurses can take to bring their innovative ideas to life.
Embracing a need for change.
Clearly defining the problem.
Experimentation.
Collaborative thinking that breaks down the norm.
Knowing where to start.
Nursehackathons are special events where nurses, other professionals and solutions enthusiasts come together to work on designing solutions for real-life health problems.
Johnson & Johnson organises one of the most innovative nurse hackathons on the planet.
You can check them out here.
At Care City, our digital health hub, Carecode organised a digital health bootcamp [the first of its kind] last year where we trained nurses and healthcare professionals on high-demand tech skills like product design and data analysis.
We enjoyed the process and learnt a lot from it.
There are already big plans for the next edition of our digital health bootcamp; this time, we want it to be bigger and better.
You can always be in the loop by subscribing to Care City Weekly, and if you want to partner, collaborate or sponsor, send me a mail here: daniel.ayinla1@gmail.com.

Why AI-nursing-care Projects Succeed – Or Don't | BMC
"Participatory and demand-driven development remains a key element in the design of R&D projects, which should ideally aim to bring AI solutions out of the lab and into nursing practice."
There's so little that's being said about the use of artificial intelligence in nursing care, and the reason isn't farfetched—there's still a lot of work to be done in the aspect of exposing nurses to what technology can do to improve healthcare delivery.
This research article by BMC explores this topic in greater detail.
What The NHS Digital Nursing Review Has Found So Far
"The Phillips Ives Nursing and Midwifery Review into the digital readiness of the nursing and midwifery workforce was launched in 2022 as a year-long research project and is set to be published soon. Led by Dr Natasha Phillips, chief nursing information officer (CNIO) at NHS England, and American nursing academic, Dr Jeanette Ives Erickson, the review is exploring what skills and training the workforce might require when working with new technologies in the coming years."
Nurse's Inventive Screening Protocol Helps Victims of Human Trafficking
"This innovative screening protocol designed by a nurse innovator flags patients that might be victims of human trafficking and a program that has trained nurses, physicians, law enforcement, and other staff to be better prepared for encountering and assisting victims."
The Nurse Scientist Helping Farm Workers Stay Cool Amid Climate Change | Johnson & Johnson Notes On Nursing, April 2023 Issue
"Roxana Chicas, PhD, RN, assistant professor in the tenure track at Emory's School of Nursing, conducted the first field-based intervention study examining methods to reduce core body temperature and improve health among farmworkers in the US, using real-time biomonitoring equipment."
Nurse Informaticists Make a Difference
"To impact digital health, nurse informaticists are leveraging healthcare technology innovations across all spectrums of healthcare, including the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). The informaticist role has expanded as organisations are addressing health equity gaps with technology. Also, the emergence of AI is transforming nursing practice across organisations to improve the quality of patient care."
The Phillips Ives Nursing and Midwifery Review
"Nursing encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. It includes the promotion of health, the prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. Nurses play a critical role in healthcare and are often the unsung heroes in healthcare facilities and emergency response. They are often the first to detect health emergencies and work on the front lines of disease prevention and the delivery of primary health care, including promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation."

Nursing Career
'There's Always One Doctor Who Disapproves Of Nurses Practising At An Advanced Level'
The nursing profession is going to naturally grow bigger than the restrictive cocoon the medical culture has built for it over time.
There’s nothing anyone can do about it. It’s the reality. And the earlier we start adjusting to this change the better for everyone in the healthcare ecosystem.
