Does Patient Access To Clinical Notes Change Documentation?
"Open, honest, and trustworthy communication is crucial to ensure the effective responses of citizens. Paralleling transparency in the arena of public health are new practice policies that are set to transform the transmission of information at the level of doctors and patients. While patients have legally been entitled to obtain copies of their records for many years, in March 2020, federal legislation in the United States (U.S.) mandated that health providers offer all patients rapid and secure online access to their clinical notes via patient portals ('open notes')."
Is It Time to Stop Treating High Triglycerides?
“Recent trial evidence has failed to show a cardiovascular benefit to treating high triglycerides. The publication of the PROMINENT trial, where pemafibrate successfully lowered high levels but was not associated with a lower risk for cardiovascular events, reinforced the point. Is it time to stop measuring and treating high triglycerides?”
The Importance Of Diversity In Clinical Trials
"Clinical trials are critical to the development of new treatments and therapies for various diseases and medical conditions. These trials involve testing the safety and effectiveness of new drugs or treatments on humans, and it is crucial to ensure that they represent diverse populations. Lack of diversity in clinical trials can lead to significant health disparities, as certain groups may not benefit from these treatments or may experience adverse effects."
Digital Health & Health Technology
These Companies Are Spending Billions So Robots Can Perform Surgery Without A Doctor In The Room
Performing a robotic procedure today can look a bit like playing a video game, but as the technology progresses, some futurists think we'll reach a day when surgeons won't even need to be in the operating room at all during a procedure.
"We want to remove surgeons from doing the fine precision work, which is really about how good you are with your hands, and move them into a more supervisory role of how and where you treat disease," said Michael Yip, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of California, San Diego.

Microsoft's Nuance Adds GPT-4 AI To Its Medical Note-taking Tool
"An AI medical scribe platform is the latest entrant into the AI arms race. On Monday, Microsoft-owned Nuance Communications announced it is integrating GPT-4 into its Dragon Ambient Intelligence platform, which is used by hospitals around the country to ease doctor workloads by using AI to listen to patient-provider conversations and write medical visit notes."
Entrepreneurship
How Social Innovators In Africa Can Be Supported To Build Inclusive Health Solutions
"Social entrepreneurs are showing us the way forward – we must ensure that they get the opportunity to scale. We must support them to build a strong evidence base," concludes Dr Bonnici.
"Despite their increasingly important role in providing healthcare services, social enterprises (especially women-run organisations) face enormous financial, legal and logistical barriers. These barriers prevent them from scaling their solutions, according to Dr François Bonnici, Head of Social Innovation, World Economic Forum and Director of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship which hosts the Global Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship."
