Care City Weekly Leadership Message
Creating and Nurturing Productive Leadership Relationships
Leadership is influence—nothing more, nothing less - John Maxwell.
Our progress in life as leaders greatly depends on the kind of relationships we decide to build and keep.
People who don’t care about creating and nurturing relationships “will go just far” — there’s a limit to how much they can achieve and how far they can go in their leadership life [and life in general].
And as career-conscious people, leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, and community builders, there’s what is called “Leadership Relationship” — the kind of relationship you deliberately build to help you grow as a leader. Connections that help you to develop the right qualities leaders need to survive up there, to remain effective and strong.
You consciously look out for people who are more experienced than you—who have been to where you are aspiring to be—who are doing what you would love to do, and you connect with them [directly or indirectly], learning from them and applying the things you learn from them to your leadership endeavours.
Do not just be on the lookout for people who are obviously bigger, greater, and more experienced than you, but also be on the lookout for people who are under you, those you lead, and who look unto you for leadership, guidance, and direction, there is also a lot to learn from them, hence you must also be deliberate when it comes to building relationships with this group of people.
Most of the time, we ‘over’ fix our focus on connecting with people who are above and higher. We feel that they are the only ones we can learn from. That’s wrong, so wrong. Learning can be horizontal and/or vertical. To learn, we have to look up, as well as look down, look around, and look inside...

The Top 100 Hospitals In The World: What Africa Must Learn
Africa still has a lot to learn from developed countries.
Sadly, though, and unfortunately, we are not putting enough effort into learning from more advanced nations.
We are rather more concerned and bothered with securing more aid and piling up more debts.
Africa needs to sit down and build all its sectors. We can’t rely on developed countries forever. Besides, the world is changing fast. The world we see today is not like the one we had some fifty or hundred years ago. Things have changed and will keep on changing, drastically. If Africa does not keep up with the changes, we will be left behind.
One sector that needs urgent help in Africa, is the healthcare sector. Despite the amount of money African countries make every year, very little of it is spent on developing the healthcare sector. Especially in a country like Nigeria, where medical tourism and brain drain are gradually eating the country up.
‘Some’ of the government hospitals in Nigeria are almost like “death zones“. Though we are grateful to some of the private hospitals that have come to the rescue. The only problem is that most of these private hospitals are far from the reach of the average Nigerian.
In Lagos state, the average ICU initial deposit in private hospitals is between 1.5 million naira and 3 million nairas...
Carecode Digital Health Hub: Graduating Our First Cohort
We finally graduated the first cohort of our maiden digital health bootcamp yesterday.
I am super excited right now. This is a giant leap for us at Carecode Digital Health Hub. It means a lot, honestly. What started as a simple idea is gradually becoming a reality.
You know, one of the sweetest feelings for entrepreneurs and visionaries is when they see their ideas gradually become reality. It’s not even about money, fame, or any other thing. Just seeing ideas and dreams materialise is enough satisfaction for them.
I know that we still have a long way to go as a startup. A very long way.
There are certain things we still need to put in place; structures to erect; systems and methods to inject into our growing community. We are ready to learn, re-learn, and unlearn. We are ready to do what it takes to bring our dreams to life.
In life, I have always lived by one simple principle, and that’s the principle of starting by faith.
You don’t have to have everything before you start. The most important thing that you need is your ability to learn, innovate, connect, and grow. That’s all you need. Believe me.
A lot of smart folks remained on shore because they were waiting to have it all before they set sail. While others were building rafts and sailing, they were waiting for big ships. I don’t believe in waiting for big ships. I believe in setting sail and moving out!...
