Jubilation As House Of Reps Suspends Nursing and Midwifery Council Of Nigeria's New Certificate Verification Guidelines
Nigerian nurses have recently faced a formidable hurdle in their quest to seek greener pastures and better opportunities in more developed countries.
The Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria was about to implement a guideline that would make certificate verification, an important step in the migration process, more complex. Â
However, The House of Reps came to the rescue and urged The Council not to implement the guideline until further review and investigations.
The Man Who Almost Died From A Heart Attack
In this article, we explore health education through storytelling.
It tells the story of a man who nearly died from a heart attack (myocardial infarction) but was saved due to timely intervention and the availability of necessary expertise and equipment.
We have also included comprehensive resources on maintaining cardiovascular health as our contribution to May Measurement Month.
World Menstrual Hygiene Day
The menstrual cycle of a woman is natural and normal.
It shouldn't bring any stigma to any woman. However, different cultures worldwide have attached various forms of stigma to it, making it appear abnormal.
This stigma has made it difficult for women to have access to the right menstrual hygiene and care.
In a #periodfriendlyworld, women have free access to the right to menstrual health, a fundamental human right.
Read our menstrual hygiene day article, packed with resources and information about menstrual hygiene and health.

What We Are Reading
Here are some of the articles we enjoyed reading this week.
Biden's executive order on AI is just the beginning
"President Biden's Executive Order on AI released last fall is one of the broadest steps ever taken on AI safety and security, said Jennifer Walsh, director of Public Affairs at Foley & Lardner. It has national security implications, as well as patient and data-security implications."

HPV Vaccine ‘Protects Males from Cancers' - Global Report
"Boys and men can benefit from human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, which can cut the risk of a range of cancers, a new study shows. The study of around 3.4 million people is one of the first long-term analyses of the vaccine's efficacy on preventing HPV-related cancers of the head and neck, anal areas, penis, vulva, vagina and cervix, Reuters reports."
Healthcare Technology
AI Tech 'Can Predict Heart Attacks Decade Before Symptoms'
"Cardiovascular disease risk prediction specialist Caristo Diagnostics has published a clinical study that shows AI can identify patients at risk of a heart attack up to 10 years in advance, even when they were deemed healthy by current diagnostic methods."
Healthcare Leadership
The power of collaboration
"Ideally, the government of a state is responsible for the provision of essential health services to its citizens. However, in reality, this is not often the case. Across the world, several factors impede governments' ability to bear sole responsibility for the development and maintenance of basic services. Some of these include a shortage of funds (which in some cases, is further compounded by the poor management of available resources), a lack of expertise, limited infrastructure and so on. "
Navigating Nigeria's Healthcare Landscape: Opportunities, Challenges, and Strategic Partnerships
"Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, with over 200 million people — a number that is projected to more than double over the next 25–30 years, propelling it to become the world's third most populous nation by 2050. This demographic increase, coupled with a healthcare market valued at approximately USD 18 billion, signifies substantial opportunities for both investors and healthcare organisations, as well as a crucial need for strategic investments in health, education, and human capital development."
